Remodeling For The “Cluster” Family
A recent National Association of Home Builders’ Remodelers survey found that consumers are becoming increasingly aware of aging-in-place options. Seventy-four percent of remodelers said they had seen an increase in requests for these types of features.
And inquiries are not just for the aging, as an increasing number of baby boomers also are becoming parental caretakers who need remodeling ideas. Those particular needs may include turning an unfinished basement into an efficiency apartment or enlarging an existing bedroom and making it handicap accessible.
“Families are beginning to cluster back,” says Deana Woodruff, age 48. “It’s a good solution for a lot of families, but when you do that, there are certain things you need to do.” Woodruff isn’t new to the remodeling business. For the last nine years, she has owned and operated with her husband, Kelley, Woodruff Construction, a residential and light commercial construction and remodeling company.
